More than a Workshop… The Leadership Challenge Process

With a plan of action in-hand for taking the key learnings from the workshop back to the workplace, leaders will be prepared to implement these new leadership practices back on the job, beginning Day 1.

According to research from the Center for Creative Leadership, the best developmental leadership processes provide 1) assessment, 2) challenge, and 3) support. These elements motivate leaders to focus their attention and exert effort toward learning, growth, and change.

Linking Leadership Challenge® workshop insights and new behaviors back to the workplace is the ultimate goal, so real personal growth occurs and organizational results really improve. To achieve this result the following process is followed:

1) Leadership Practices Inventory®:

Before the training, each participant will go through a 360 degree assessment that includes the evaluation of the participant, his/her manager, one of his/her subordinate, and one of his/her colleagues.

2) The Workshop:

In a two‐day time frame, the trainer will cover the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®, developed by authors and researchers Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. In a highly interactive, experience-based approach, participants learn how to Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart.

During the workshop participants will receive feedback on their current leadership behaviors from the Leadership Practices Inventory®, and then compare this feedback with the practices of exemplary leaders.

By the end of the workshop, the consultant will provide each participant with a an activity log “Practice Book” that describes what are the behaviors that he/she needs to demonstrate “based on the leadership challenge model” during a one month period. They will also develop a post-workshop development plan.

3) Individual follow‐up coaching:

The Post-workshop development plans help leaders build on their LPI feedback and convert their Leadership Challenge® experience to increased effectiveness.

After one month, there will be one-on-one coaching sessions where the trainer will review the activity logs “Practice Books” of each participant with them, and provide them with the needed advice to assist them and assure their improvement.

One‐on‐one coaching with the trainer will provide encouragement and feedback in a risk‐free setting. Leaders can review their progress, discuss what is working and what isn’t and maintain the high energy and momentum of the seminar experience.

The one-on-one coaching sessions will be repeated for 3 months, once per month.

4) Re-administration of the LPI:

By the end of the three months period, the LPI (Leadership Practice Inventory) will be completed again by the participants to measure progress made towards leadership development goals agreed upon during the workshop.
